Post subject: 6.14.10.6422 Driver Update
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>ati (more info?)

In preparation for pulling all my VHS and home movie collection to my
pc (and then to dvd), I began updating several drivers on my system to
ensure I maximum options (according to a variety of sites needed MMC
7.7 or higher and latest video drivers)

I pulled down 6.14.10.6422 for my Radeon 9700 Pro (and TV tuner VE).

After installation, and reboot, everytime I click on any menu (right
click on desktop in order to select properties, right click on the
trash can to empty it, start menu, etc....) it "phases" in and takes
quite a long time.

Is it possible that there is a setting that the new drivers changed
that is causing this. It is both annoying and much slower than it
used to be. I reverted to the previous drivers using the "Roll Back
Driver" button in the RAdeon 9700 Pro Properties, but it is still
doing it.

The other odd thing is that if I do an "about" on the MMC menu bar, it
still is showing v7.6. I didn't expect that.

I'm really hoping this is just an setting that for some reason I'm not
finding.

Thanks

Here's my system specs if it matters:

Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition
AMD Athlon 2200+
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (driver 6.15.10.6422)
1 GB Corsair Mem w/silver heatspreaders (2 sticks of 512)
Toshiba DVD 16/48
Liteon CDRW 48/12/48
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 80GB HD
Microsoft Wireless Optical Pro Keyboard & Mouse
Microsoft Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback Wheel/Pedals
Microsoft Wireless Basestation MN-500
Boston Acoustic Speakers

System Cooling:
Stock Mobo chipset cooling
CoolerMaster HAC-V81 (best HSF's out there for $13, this thing
reduced temps by 8C over stock HSF)
Inflow – 2 startech 80mm in front slots w/ filter
Inflow – 1 old PSU 80mm & 1 AMD stock HSF 60mm taking up 2 5.25 bays
attached to plexi & screen
Inflow – 1 vantec stealth 80mm in side with a plexi duct pointed to
cpu
Exhaust – 2 antec 80mm in rear slots
Exhaust – startech PCI Card cooler (this thing sucks out some serious
heat)
Inflow – 1 92mm fan rigged with "feet" sitting on bottom of case to
help suck the front case air onto video/chipset
Vantec Aluminum Hard Drive cooler

I found that I could improve this by going into the Control Panel, selecting
System,
then Advanced and turn off the menu fade effects and other animations.

I'm still stumped.
Why were these were on before without issues, yet the driver upgrade
suddenly made them an issue??
