radeon 9600pro or xt or 128mb geforce fx5900se? there is only a $30

I'm currently bidding on a Radeon 9700 on eB*y... should cost less than any
of them
See if you can find one, apparently it's not much slower than a 9800 and
should kick a 9600 pro's backside. Check out the benchmarks at

In both cases I think that fx5900 would do it just fine. If you have more
money, I would go for Radeon 9800PRO. They've become quite cheap these days.
But whatever you do, you should seriously consider upgrading your system RAM
to with at least 512MB extra RAM.

Agreed. A 9700 Pro is only 10% less the performance of the 9800 Pro. The
trick is to finding one at a decent price. I've been checking Ebay over the
last few days and invariably they close at around $150 -$160US with $15
shipping or so. So $165-$175 for a used 9700 Pro vs $200 or so for a new
9800 Pro. Hard to decide. There was one that went for $132 a couple of days
ago. >> Stay informed about: which video card? |

If you can find a 9800, you'd be better off.
Just be careful not to get one of the 128bit 9800s floating about as they
are essentially a 9800se (Dunno who is making them, but it's a blatant con).

Am I right in thinking the non-Pro 9700 is just a short hop, skip and jump
from a Pro and easily overclocked into one?
